Palmeiras midfielder Matheus Fernandes will receive €700,000 in compensation from Barcelona over his unfair contract termination.

Ufabet reported on Sunday that Barcelona will have to pay Matheus Fernandes €731,000 in compensation for his unfair contract termination following a ruling by the Court of Justice.
Barcelona signed Matheus Fernandes from Palmeiras in January 2020 but failed to make the breakthrough at the Blaugrana, with the club terminating his contract 18 months later, stating that the player did not have the physicality, skills and attitude to be part of the squad.
Matheus Fernandes then filed a lawsuit for unfair dismissal, seeking €14.8 million in compensation, which the Brazilian midfielder won in the first instance, but had his compensation reduced to €7.7 million.
However, Barcelona appealed to the Catalan Court of Appeal, which UFABET ruled that the Blaugrana would pay €731,000 in compensation. Although the Brazilian midfielder demanded more money and appealed to the Court of Sport, the original decision was upheld, which is good news for the Catalan giants, who will have to pay only this amount.
Upon having his contract terminate, Fernandes filed an unfair dismissal lawsuit. He initially claime €14.8m, and although he did win the initial case, the fee owed was reduce to €7.7m. However, Barcelona appeal the verdict to the High Court of Justice of Catalonia (TSJC), and the compensation was lower down to €731k.
Fernandes demanded more, and he subsequently filed an appeal with the Supreme Court. However, El Confidencial (via MD) say that this has now been reject, meaning that Barcelona will only be require to pay out the €731k, which is a saving of €7m from the initial case.
